Extension and renovation of traditional hills stone cottage. Free flowing contemporary addition to the rear of the original home focusing on passive solar, recycled materials, and cross flow ventilation. Resulting in a beautiful composition of old and new. The interior spaces are sleek and refined while the indoor outdoor living is seamless and inviting.
A beautiful blend of old and new as designed by Cast Architecture.
With older homes that have soul and cannot be replicated successfully, it is important to respect the history and integrity of the existing home. A modern passive solar design with rustic elements blends perfectly against the vintage stone cottage.
The renovation incorporated a beautiful internal bathroom upgrade and an extension containing the open-plan kitchen, family dining rooms opening up onto a north facing Alfresco for the perfect indoor / outdoor opportunity.
Sustainable design features;
North facing living areas and operable highlight windows to allow Winter sun in and keep Summer heat out enhanced by cross-flow ventilation. Semi-commercial stacker doors allow the living areas to be transformed for indoor-outdoor use.
Recycled Oregon from the Cheltenham Racecourse and Jarrah from the HMAS Encounter Navy Base help to provide the home a sense of place and a soul against the older stone cottage.
The renovation is completed with stunning joinery designed and supplied by Kitchens by Farquar, beautiful large format tiles from Beaumont Tiles, frameless shower screens and beautiful taste in decoration.
