Project Description

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

When the client loves the look and feel of a local home, then an authentic replication process becomes an excellent design pathway.
Completed late 2017, this home typifies the 1920’s ‘Gentleman’s bungalow’ architecture but with modern functionality and style internally.
Trades and suppliers were able to recreate the precise detailing of the era and the result reflects the surrounding heritage suburb.
A modern home with a sense of place. An outcome that blends with local architecture as if built a century ago.

Set across a double block and in a heritage policy zone, the design reflects the local architecture.

Craftsmanship and materials selection regarding the reproduction elements were critical. The stonemason, bricklayer, carpenter, fencer and painter in particular were all selected for their trade skill, attention to detail and love of reproduction workmanship.

Matching the trades and suppliers to the project brief is always a critical success factor on heritage homes. As a result, the home is beautiful, authentic and constructed using ‘best practice’ modern materials and technical methods.

The romantic, stone-pointed front porch, solid 1920’s front door and wide double hallway all make a strong first impression. Polished floorboards, heritage internal doors and chandelier complete the grand hallway effect.

Intelligent design allows the home to be segregated into 3 modules; the main living and parent’s wing, the kid’s wing including separate living area and a functional workshop wing. Each are compartmentalized, zoned and separate from a services viewpoint.

An open-plan kitchen/living area is both inviting and flexible. Large sliding stacker doors facilitate indoor/outdoor lifestyle and a seamless transition from pool area to outdoor kitchen, undercover alfresco or the family areas of the home makes entertaining easy.
